Barnoldswick Town 3 Jarrow Roofing 1

BARNOLDSWICK recovered from going a goal down to record their first-ever victory in the FA Cup at the Silentnight Stadium on Saturday.

The visitors went ahead when Dennis Knight fired home a shot from the edge of the penalty area in the 21st minute.

Town didn't let the setback upset them and they levelled in the 34th minute through striker Mark Threlfall.

A through ball into the Jarrow penalty area resulted in a race between Shaun Newbrook in the Jarrow goal and Threlfall.

The Barnoldswick player slid in and managed to flick the ball goal side of Newbrook, got back on his feet quickly and slotted the ball inside the far post.

Another slick move five minutes later saw Jake Lloyd fire low inside Newbrook’s right post from ten yards out.

Town made the tie safe in the 64th minute when Danny Boyle was tripped just inside the penalty area.

The striker, who scored two hat-tricks in pre-season, sent Newbrook the wrong way from the penalty spot.

The win was worth £1,500 for Town and they can boost their earnings by a further £1,925 if they beat Dunston UTS in the Preliminary Round at the Silentnight Stadium on August 19.

The North East club beat Barnoldswick in a replay last year. The two sides have also been drawn to meet each other in the FA Vase at Barnoldswick on September 9.

Barnoldswick kick off their Hallmark Security League Premier Division programme on Saturday with a trip to Winsford United.

Their first home game is on Tuesday when they entertain Burscough.
