Carlisle City 0 Silsden 1

SILSDEN claimed their third win from three league games to leave them joint top of the Hallmark Security League Division One.

The Cobbydalers travelled to Gillford Park for a game brought forward as neither side were involved in FA Cup action.

Carlisle City have had a Jekyll and Hyde start, losing the opening fixture 4-0 at Chadderton but winning by the same score at home to Nelson in midweek.

With boss Danny Forrest and Mark Trueman injured, the Cobbydalers were also without Matty Moses, who was declared unfit for the kick-off.

Aaron Davis, who was a scorer as substitute in Silsden's win at Blackpool, replaced Moses and Josh Eastwood was on the bench having just returned from holiday.

With City having the advantage of the wind, they went close when Jordan Atkinson saw his shot parried by Callum Jakovlevs before Davis cleared.

Joe Gaughan saw a right-foot effort deflected wide while Arley Barnes was dominant in midfield, spreading the ball wide with creativity.

Barnes chipped a free-kick over the defence to Gaughan whose shot was cleared for a corner.

Mark Everingham looked very comfortable at left back. His through ball set up Nicky McNally who saw his volley just clear the bar.

The Cobbydalers took the lead on the stroke of half-time when 17-year-old keeper Lewis Casson failed to clear a back pass and Niall Sultan scored what turned out to be the winner.

Gaughan was narrowly wide again at the start of the second half, and after a period of possession, Barnes had an effort deflected for a corner.

A rare sortie upfield by City was intercepted superbly by Josh Kaine. Midway through the half a fantastic move involving Kyle Hancock, Davis, Sultan and Gaughan ended with the latter shooting wide.

Minutes later Barnes chipped a free-kick over the defensive wall. Gaughan had a one-on-one with the young keeper, who spread himself to keep City in the game. Hancock saw an effort strike the far post and rebound to safety.

In another rare Carlisle break, Peter Allison freed Brady Wiser, who shot narrowly wide. Barnes and Gaughan both shot over as the Cobbydalers sought a second but, in the dying minutes, the hosts almost equalised. Bradbury crossed from the right and substitute Ben Davidson shot marginally over.

Boss Forrest said: "We created so many chances and only scored one. We won because our defensive play was very solid, where both Mark Everingham and Aaron Davis looked composed. "Needless to say Dan Illingworth and Kaine were dominant. The goals are bound to come.

"I was delighted with Mateusz Tomas, who had his best game to date, and pleased also with Luke Baldwin, who almost scored in stoppage time."

Silsden host Alsager Town on Saturday before facing Chadderton the following Tuesday in a match to be played at Atherton Collieries.
