Barnoldswick Town 0 Runcorn Town 1

BARNOLDSWICK Town were made to pay for missing their chances as they suffered their first Premier Division home defeat of the season.

They created far more opportunities than their rivals but they didn't take advantage.

Even the winning goal in the 17th minute came after a Barnoldswick attack.

They had four shots blocked by the resolute Runcorn defence and from the last the ball broke quickly upfield.

Central defenders Johnny Hodgkinson and Shaun Airey were caught out by a flick on from Simon Simon Thelwells and that enabled Craig Cairns to break clear and lob keeper Connor King for his fifth goal of the season.

Barnoldswick picked themselves up after going behind but they just couldn't break down the resolute Runcorn defence or beat goalkeeper Andy Metcalf who made a series of fine saves.

Barnoldswick are in action on Tuesday night at Squires Gate.
