Barnoldswick Town (EL) 1 Waddington 3

STORM Brian made conditions challenging for the two teams in their Craven Cup first round encounter.

Despite the wind and rain the two East Lancashire League Division Two teams served up a fine cup tie.

Waddington have made a good start to the season with five straight league wins and the match presented the young Town players with a real challenge.

Waddington took the lead after 25 minutes when indecision in the home defence enabled striker Chris Baron to turn and finish.

The managers made some tactical changes during the interval and Town offered more of an attacking force in the second period.

Waddington extended their lead after 50 minutes when Baron struck again.

Despite the two goal deficit Town were now playing well and the introduction of Teal Amos had an immediate effect as he outpaced the entire Waddington defence before putting over a fine cross which Bailey Coates was only an inch from converting.

A superb through ball from Amos put Jonathon Davies clean through on goal and he narrowly missed the target and the chance to reduce the arrears.

A third goal for Waddington by Luke Conti in the 75th minute minutes effectively finished the contest.

Tom Cleaver reduced the arrears for Town three minutes later but they were unable to break down the Waddington defence again.

Skipton Town eased into the second round with a 6-2 win over Bradley. Michael Conroy and Miles Thompson each scored twice while John Bunnett and Sam Kimberley added further goals.

Both Bradley's goals came in the second half through David Hunt and Joey Stapleton.

Rimington edged out Cononley Sport 6-5 in a thrilling tie while Pendle renegades saw off Grindleton 4-2 with Jordan Slade scoring twice.
