SETTLE United won their crucial weekend clash at Silsden Whitestar and that proved to be decisive as they clinched the Skipton Body Repair Centre Craven & District Premier Division title on goal difference after an incredibly tight season.

They had won the top flight in three of the last four seasons and thanks to Saturday's 3-1 win, title rivals Whitestar had to win their two remaining games and overturn a seven goal disadvantage to earn top spot.

Whitestar achieved the former, with 4-2 and 4-1 victories over Grassington United and Rolls respectively, but missed out on the title by the finest of margins, just two goals.

Settle's weekend fixture was their last game of the season, and they knew defeat would virtually hand the title to Whitestar. The game was locked at 1-1 going into the break, but the away side scored twice in the second half to record a vital result.

Mark Loughlin, Elliot Firth and Tom Strickland all found the net for Settle.

Carleton will be joining those two in the Premier Division next season and having already wrapped up the Division One title, they went out and played an extraordinary game at mid-table AFC Colne.

The home side played well in attack, with Jake Hart scoring a hat-trick. However, Carleton's Luke Howsen went two better as he hit five. With Ashley Purnell also netting a treble for the visitors, they ended up as 9-5 winners in an incredible encounter.

They missed out on completing an unbeaten season though, losing 3-2 in a thriller at home to Broomhill in their penultimate game of the season.

Meanwhile, Silsden Whitestar Reserves were guaranteed to finish second in Division Two, but they were left disappointed after their final clash, as they were crushed 4-1 at home by Trawden Celtic Reserves. Tom Lohan struck their only goal.
