Wharfedale Harriers young runner James Hall is making a big impact in the senior ranks.

He captured his first win since moving up from the juniors when he stormed to victory in Sunday’s BOFRA Championship race at Cra- coe.

Hall kept well in touch with Calder Valley’s Shaun Godsman climbing up the fields and moorland to the Obelisk that looks down on the village 900 feet below.

The Wharfedale runner’s speed and agility soon took him to the front of the rest of the 95 runners.

He nailed victory in a time of 20.54 with Shaun Godsman 23 seconds adrift in second followed by Pudsey & Bramley’s Ian Nixon. Wharfedale’s Ted Mason, the defending BOFRA champion and a previous winner of the race, came home fourth.

Skipton’s Luke Maude had a good run to finish sixth just ahead of Hellifield’s Jimmy Craig who was seventh. The ladies race saw the in-form Helen Glover win impressively with Ambleside’s Hazel Robinson second and Wharfedale’s Kirsty Hall third.

The under-17s produced an exciting finish in a race run over the same course as the seniors.

Borrowdale’s Oscar Meanwell had to pull everything out to stop Wharfedale’s Harry Muir overhauling him coming down the final field towards the finish.

Muir never gave up and was one second behind the race winner. Club-mate John Lockwood was third.

Ingleton’s Ellie Lambert is one of the top competitors in this age group and was a comfortable winner in the girl’s race.

The under-14 age group has attracted some talented juniors with the names of Hyndburn’s Joshua Doyle, Keighley’s James Lund and Bingley’s Matthew Merrick usually featuring in the top three.

They didn’t disappoint at Cracoe as they finished in exactly that order.

The girls race was on by Merrick’s sister Victoria.

There was a cavalry charge of juniors vying for positions in the under-12s.

Settle’s Thomas Marshall had a tremendous race to get his second win in eight days with Wharfedale Harrier Ciaren Crabtree giving it his all to reel him in and finish just six seconds behind.

It was a race that brought out the best of Wharfedaler Logan Ha- greaves Madhas who finished third.

Keighley & Craven runner Katie Atkinson claimed another win with Clayton’s Briony Holt in second and Helm’s Mia Walsh third.

The youngest group is the under-nines These are the future of the sport.
