Two Wharfedale Harriers from opposite ends of the age spectrum put injury problems behind them to claim BOFRA awards at the organisation’s annual presentation night.

Under-12 runner Logan Har- greaves Madhas, who finished the season with a string of victories, won the most improved runner accolade.

The second athlete from the Silsden-based Wharfedale club to be honoured was veteran Barry Scholes.

The 2012 season had been a disaster for him due to a string of injuries, but victory in the Kendal Winter League’s over-60s section set him up for a memorable summer.

Eight wins in his category saw him secure the BOFA over-60s title by the halway point.

And there was a surprise for him on the night when BOFRA announced he had won the second division for the eighth time.

The senior men’s trophy, which Ted Mason won last year, went this time to Calder Valley’s Shaun Godsman.

He finnished well clear of Wharfedale Harrier Mason who was runner up. Mason’s team-mate James Hall was third in his first year in the seniors and he also won the under-23 men’s title.

Hellifield’s Jimmy Craig was the next Wharfedaler in fourth with Jim Stockdale from Burnsall winning the over-50’s vets title.

Wharfedale’s ladies played a big part in the championship which this year was won by Ambleside’s Hazel Robinson. Threshfield’s Kirsty Hall finished runner up, while her club mate Jean Powell crowned a tremendous season by taking fourth place. She also took the lady vet 45 title.

Keighley & Craven’s talented runner Rosie Hellawell won the ladies under-23 title.

Ingleton’s Ellie Lambert was another Wharfedale Harrier to clinch a title after her eight wins secured victory for her in the under-17 girls’ title race. Another girl to achieve a cleansweep of eight wins was Bingley Harrier Victoria Merrick.

The under-12s is the strongest age group with Cumbrian runner Frazer Sproul winning the boys’ title convincingly. Settle Harrier Thomas Marshall had some outstanding races and was runner up. Logan Hargreaves Madhas was third.

The girls’ champion was Keighley & Craven’s Katie Atkin son who runs races impressively from the front.

She had some fine results this year to take her first title in the under-12s. It could be the first of many for her.
