VICTORIA Wilkinson is making a peak performance the main focus of her 2016 campaign.

The 37-year-old Great Britain international distance runner has set her sights on April's Three Peaks fell race.

The event is a trial for the World Long Distance Championships in Slovenia in June and Wilkinson knows a good performance could earn her further international honours.

The Hebden-based runner won World and European team gold medals last year for mountain running.

Looking forward to the Three Peaks, Wilkinson said: "I won it two years ago and would love to do it again.

"The fact it is a trial race gives it added interest for me.

"Getting into the Great Britain team will not be easy, but I will give it my best shot.

"I just hope that my training goes well, that I stay free of injury, and have that little bit of luck that is needed to perform well."

Wilkinson is aiming to defend her English Fell Running Championship this summer and plans to compete in Switzerland too.

"I haven't mapped out all my programme, but I know my main focus and will work towards achieving that."
