Steeton Cricket Club can look forward to having an improved pavilion and meeting room thanks to a funding boost from The Veolia Environmental Trust.

The Aire-Wharfe League club have been awarded a £5,000 grant to improve access and carry out internal work to their facilities at Summerhill Lane, improving use for those with disabilities or limited mobility.

Steeton Cricket Club's first-team captain Jonathan Best said: "It is great that The Veolia Environmental Trust has awarded this grant and we cannot wait to get work underway.”

Maria Cade, acting executive director of The Veolia Environmental Trust, added: "We are delighted to be supporting this project.

"It will make a real difference to the community of Steeton by creating the opportunity for everyone to access this important facility.”

The grant was awarded at the trust's quarterly board earlier this month, when 48 grants totalling just over £1.2m were awarded to community and environmental projects across the UK.

The Veolia Environmental Trust awarded grants through the Landfill Communities Fund, and in the last five years they have awarded £642,649 to projects in West Yorkshire.

They will now work with the cricket club to finalise the project details and work will be started as soon as possible.
