Settle’s Robbie Davidson scored a remarkable unbeaten century at Whalley on Saturday.

It was by far his career-best score and was achieved at a run a ball as the rest of his side struggled to make any impact.

Only pro Imran Khalid (15) and skipper Eddy Read (13) made it to double figures as the visitors were thankful to reach 168-9.

His eight fours and two sixes stood out as only six other boundaries were hit and he reached 100 just as the innings closed.

The bowlers had to do their duty in reply and Eddy Read obliged with an excellent return of 5-18 from 14 overs, including the scalp of pro Wilkin Mota for 11.

Khalid (3-39) and Andrew Davidson (2-21) also kept the stranglehold on Whalley who were all out for 113.

Settle’s joy was cut short on Sunday when they suffered a home defeat in a rain-affected encounter with Ribblesdale Wanderers.

The Church Meadow side made 93 all out with Adil Islam (5-43) claiming his first five-wicket haul for the club. Khalid gave support with 3-11.

Brothers Laurence and Eddy Read (16 and 13) reached double figures but the Marshfield men were dismissed for 71, with 22 of those coming from extras.

There seems to be no stopping Settle seconds at present.

They showed their delight at being put in to bat by Feniscowles by scoring 266-4. The first three home batsmen scored big half-centuries, Josh Mullinder yet again demolishing the bowling for his 65 off 54 balls.

John Tarbox played in similarly commanding vein to score 60 from 48 deliveries and there was a welcome 58 from David Hulse who batted his way back into form.

James Holgate (35no) and James Metcalfe (13) added useful late runs.

Five-wicket hauls for Ethan Henare (5-18) and Damon Barrett (5-20) who removed the entire opposition between them without any help from the field, secured victory by a massive 213 runs Cherry Tree extended their lead over Earby at the top of the Senior League Division Two with a two-wicket win.

Earby were put in to bat and soon hit trouble. Both openers were removed with only 12 on the board.

Matt Wilson (21) and pro Dave Crotty tried to stem the tide but when both fell in quick succession the innings declined to 101-9.

Thankfully for Earby, Danny Kegg was standing firm and he found a willing ally in last-man Iain Clarkson.

They put on 61 for the last-wicket with Clarkson smashing an unbeaten 52 off 37 and Kegg finishing 32 not out to boost the score to 162-9. Rob Ince finished with 5-56 off 18 overs for Earby.

Skipper Richard Craddock struck with the second and fourth balls of his first over to remove Cherry Tree’s skipper Mark Hadfield and Amar Ullah.

Pro Ruan Sadler came to his side’s rescue with an aggressive 57 off 33 balls. When he departed, Craig Kennedy (43no) steered Cherry Tree to a two-wicket win.

Crotty (3-30) was the pick of Earby’s bowlers while Parkinson took 2-14 There was more disappointment for Earby at Edenfield on Sunday when they suffered an agonising one-run defeat.

The match didn’t get underway until 3.20pm and when it did, Edenfield went on the attack.

Joe McClaskie (81no) and Paul Gallagher (70no) shared an unbroken second-wicket stand of 129 as Edenfield made 179-1 in their 31 overs.

Earby knew they had to score at six an over and though they lost early wickets, skipper Richard Craddock (53), Andrew Jaggers (40) and Matt Haines (42no) kept their side in the hunt.

The target came down to nine runs from the final over and four off the last delivery. Haines hit the ball but only managed to run two and Earby had lost by the slimest of margins.
