IMRAN Khalid demonstrated his match-winning qualities as Settle went to the top of the Houldsworth Ribblesdale League and made progress in the Ramsbottom Cup.

It was Khalid's slow bowling that was decisive in Saturday's 47-run win over Baxenden in a low-scoring encounter.

Khalid took 5-23 and was backed up by Saud Ahmed (3-12) as Baxenden were dismissed for 56 in reply to Settle's 103. Gary Sudworth took 6-35 for Baxenden.

It was Khalid's batting that stole the show in Sunday cup clash against Read. The left-hander made a superb 114 and was backed up by Robbie Davidson (55) as a total of 299-8 out the Marshfield side in control. Read were dismissed for 129 as Settle secured a 170-run win.

Earby remain at the wrong end of the table after Saturday's 13-run defeat by Read. Chris Walton made a battling 61 when they replied to Read's 227-9, but Keegan Petersen (5-68) ensured Earby didn't reach their target.

There was better luck for Earby in the cup where the steady bowling of Richard Craddock (3-16) and Jake Hargreaves (3-50) helped them dismiss Great Harwood for 147 before easing to a four-wicket win.

Barnoldswick, who were rained off on Saturday, had a thrilling six-run cup win over Baxenden. South African Kyle Marshall (54) and Matthew Nutter (35) led their side to 169, then Abdul Saddique (3-33) and Nutter (3-47) restricted Baxenden to 163.
