A REMARKABLE spell of bowling by Scott Robinson helped to turn things around for Embsay in the Mewies Solicitors Craven League Division One.

Bingley Congs, who were joint leaders early last month, were 94-2 at Beckfoot Lane before Robinson (5.4-3-5-6) triggered a collapse to 107 all out, Phil Binner helping out with 3-40.

Embsay took only 30 overs to knock the runs off, Morgan Davies (40) and Josh Robinson (30) putting on 71 for the first wicket as the visitors won by eight wickets to put more daylight between themselves and the bottom three.

Sutton are one of that trio after Ben Bolland (4-35) and Simon Doane (3-53) had restricted hosts Haworth Road Meths to 185.

The visitors made a good start, thanks to skipper Craig Thornton (44), Richard Walker (38) and David Snowden (37) but they then fell away to 154 all out.

Division Two leaders Thornton-in-Craven could only make 78 against second-placed Oakworth Seconds and were beaten by seven wickets in just 18.2 overs at Royd Hill as the top two swapped places.

Cowling remain equal third but were given a decent test at basement boys Gargrave.

Joe Wood (4-16) and Harry McEneaney (3-48) got among the wickets in Cowling’s 152-8, of which Mark Adams made 47 and Wasim Hussain (34), and McEneaney completed a good day personally with 45 not out, Joe Metcalfe scoring 39 in Gargrave’s 135, Martyn Dalby returning a match-winning 6-51.

Glusburn remain fifth but almost paid for almost collapsing from 128-1 at lowly Hepworth & Idle.

Dave Atkinson (77) and Neil Freeman (29) added 77 for Glusburn’s first wicket, but they only finished with 178-7, the Westfield Laners replying with 176-9 as Atkinson took 5-41 in what was a cracking contest.

Bradley’s total of 193-7 was largely down to James Heseltine (45), James Robinson (40) and Craig Tempest (34) but that was insufficient as home side Wilsden won by seven wickets in 32 overs.

Joint Division Three front-runners Cononley found things almost as easy at home to fourth-placed Riddlesden, Scott Brook taking 6-38 and Jack Hatton (3-31) as the visitors were castled for 139.

Charles Calvert (44) was the main contributor as the hosts won by four wickets in the 38th over.

Skipton Church Institute remain fourth after a four-wicket victory at third-from-bottom Embsay, whose 150-9 was centred on opener Alan Robinson (50) and, after stuttering from 50-1 to 69-5, some tail wagging as John Stuttard took 4-36 and Sean Williamson (3-55).)The churchmen were 2-2 but there were no dramas after that as Ian Burke (76no) and Martin Seward (36) added 72 for the third wicket in a four-wicket victory.

Jamie Oldfield made 78 for nine-man Thornton-in-Craven as they were dismissed for 106 in reply to Chatburn’s 194-8 in Division Four. Mark Laycock bagged 3-37 and Dan Oldfield (3-40)

Glusburn had a man more than Thornton and made 116, opener and skipper Mark Johnston making 51 but Alan Coney (29) was the only other player to support him at home to Hepworth & Idle, who knocked off the runs with one wicket down.

Gargrave may be bottom but made a decent fist of chasing down Oakworth’s 359-5, replying with 252-8 on a day of 611 runs at Bronte Field, with Ed Stanley hitting 76.

Cowling are the new leaders of Division Five, overtaking Sutton, who lost to Sandy Lane.

Cononley’s Paul Hogg (68no) and Antony Radley (40) gave them a good start at Cowling and they ended up with 164-4, Cowling only knocking them off with two balls to spare with four wickets down, thanks to skipper Sajid Shafait (60no) and Tahir Mahmood (30). Former leaders Sutton only had three players in double figures at Sandy Lane, opener Kane Booker leading the way with 40 as Irfan Ul Haque took 4-23, but the home side won easily after being 0-2, Muhammed Ulfat making an unbeaten 65.

Bradley also had just three players in double figures when they were rolled over for 63 at home to Ingrow, Frank Watkinson having earlier taken 5-31 in the visitors’ 141.

Long Lee could only muster eight men at Sandylands but four of them got starts in their 86 after Skipton CI had totalled 186-7.

William Shuttleworth leading the way with 69 for the home side, Chris Windle and Robert Suter adding 35 each.
