BINGLEY Congs all-rounder Tom Mackenzie is hoping that his parents come good on their promise after his club won the Mewies Solicitors Craven League Wynn Cup.

In the wake of the Beckfoot Lane club's 84-run win over Oakworth in the final replay at Ingrow, the 20-year-old Australian said: "My dad Lynton and mum Kay have said they would upgrade me to business class on the flight home later this month if we won the cup."

Mackenzie, who is from Adelaide and was named man of the match for his 44 and 4-15 with his leg-spinners, added: "Oakworth put us in on what was a wet wicket and a damp outfield and we lost two quick wickets to be 15-2 before I joined Chris Dibb (18) and we put on 43, going at about eight an over.

"Tom Keighley batted well for his 50 and, with Wayne Exley, made sure that we used our overs up in adding 42.

"Matty Roberts (38no) and Dave Tarren (23) also batted well and we were more than happy with our 209-8 – I would have settled for 190."

Jack Davison was Oakworth's most successful bowler with 3-47, while Ben Howell took 2-58 and Michael Scarborough 0-31 off 12 tight overs.

Oakworth also lost two quick wickets early (Joel Gallagher, who was cleaned up by Harry Greenhalgh's first ball, and Jack Hainsworth) but were revived by Ben Howell (43) and Gareth Marshall (21), who was restricted by a pulled hamstring.

Skipper Tarren's intuition to put Mackenzie on in the 26th over paid dividends, however, as he had Howell stumped and Robert Hopkinson (28) leg before.

He then bowled Steve Filkin and Tim Walsh as Oakworth collapsed from 95-3 to 125 all out, including two run-outs, leaving Congs winners by a comfortable margin.

Roberts (1-19 off eight), Greenhalgh (1-25 off eight) and Neil Copping (1-35 off ten) backed up Mackenzie well as the Beckfoot Lane club lifted the Wynn Cup for the second time.
