Sutton-in-Craven Cricket Club has been awarded the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Clubmark accreditation - and is the first club in the Mewies Solicitors Craven and District Cricket League to achieve the accolade.

To achieve the accreditation, the club had to show it provided a safe, effective and child-friendly environment and had achieved at least the minimum operating standards for playing and developing the game of cricket.

Chairman Stuart Robinson said: “We embarked on this Clubmark journey 24 months ago and to receive this award is a fantastic achievement that was only possible because of the effort of numerous club members.

“Getting Clubmark status is not the end of the two years hard work but is the beginning.

“Following the most successful season ever by our junior teams it is our intention to expand further and by doing so lay a solid foundation for the club. With plans to rebuild the tea hut and changing facilities as soon as possible we hope to provide a bigger and better cricket club for our community.”

The certificate was handed over by Vanessa Themistocleous, school sports co-ordinator based at South Craven School, to club president Clifford Gill, junior team captains Chris Williams and Simon Todd and U-13 team representative Shaun Wood.
