Barnoldswick bid to snatch second place

Barnoldswick will be looking to clinch runners-up spot when they play their final Senior Division game at Great Harwood on Saturday.

Their slim hopes of snatching the title were drowned out when rain wrecked last Saturday’s league programme and confirmed Baxenden as champions.

So now Barnoldswick will be hoping they can pip Read for second place.

They are currently three points adrift of their rivals who appear to have the slightly easier match at home to lowly Oswaldtwistle.

Read were probably the team left most frustrated by the rain. They had bowled out Earby for 59 when the weather intervened.

Earby round off their inconsistent campaign at Whalley.

Just nine overs were possible at Barnoldswick where Cherry Tree had progressed to 34-1 when the rain came.

Bottom team Settle had reduced hosts Ribblesdale Wanderers 41-2 when play was abandoned.

Settle’s hopes of avoiding the wooden spoon are not helped by the fact that their final match is at home to the new champions Baxenden.

It means the youthful Settle side will have to contain the outstanding Babar Naeem.

The Baxenden pro has scored an impressive 1,425 runs and taken 117 wickets to spearhead his side’s title-winning campaign.

Settle are holding their awards evening after the game. There will be a fish and chip supper at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 and orders should be emailed to _andrewdavidson007@yahoo.co.uk_
