STEETON were put to the sword at home to leaders Beckwithshaw in Division One.

John Inglis scored 141 as the visitors put on 158 for their first wicket on their way to a formidable 282-4 in 43 overs.

Steeton’s only successful bowler was Jon Best, who finished with excellent figures of 4-37 runs from 11 overs.

With forecasters predicting rain, the away side declared early, giving Steeton seven extra overs to bat.

But the hosts fell well short and were all out for 137 runs in 36 overs.

They were 22-3 off ten overs and, though Australian Max Tomkinson (17) and Chris Luxton (17) steadied the innings, Steeton continued to lose wickets and in the 25th over were 94-6.

John Akrigg top-scored with 45 from 43 deliveries while Best capped a fine display with an unbeaten 27.

Skipton were made to pay for a disappointing batting performance as they suffered a nine-wicket defeat at Illingworth.

Openers Kevin Owens (27) and Richard Nichols (24) looked to have given their side a solid start with a first-wicket stand of 46, but they soon found themselves in trouble at 63-4.

Steve Carling (32) and Iqbal Khan (28) moved the score onto 107 before the last six wickets fell for just 34 runs. Stephen Cook took 5-19 and Liam Kelly (4-45).

Illingworth had little trouble knocking off the runs. Openers James Lawton (61) and Danny Gibbs (59no) shared a partnership of 120 in 27.5 overs. Victory was sealed with almost 20 overs to spare as theSkipton bowlers failed to make an impression.

Addingham had a big win against promotion hopefuls Old Modernians in Division Three on the back of a league record eighth-wicket stand of 147 between the Ellis cousins Rob (74) and Danny (66).

It helped Addingham from 67-7 to a 216 total and with Richard Hey taking 4-27, Modernians could only manage 180.

Addingham are now level on points at the top with Olicanian who skittled out Alwoodley for 39 in reply to their 158, thanks to Bernard Hughes (7-19) and Sajeed Ijaz (3-20).

Upper Wharfedale climbed out of the re-election positions with a nail-biting one-wicket win at Menston. After bowling out Menston for 189 in 42 overs with Caleb Grant taking 3-41, Upper Wharfedale needed seven of the eight extra overs they secured for themselves before sealing victory.

Last pair Max Bell (16no) and Matt Daggett (9no) saw their side home despite a magnificent spell of bowling from Charlie Parker of 8-43.

Evergreen Dave Eggleton, the Upper Wharfedale captain, set up the victory with a determined innings of 56.

Silsden suffered a hammering at Calverley. Scott Driscoll (83no) was the main contributor to the hosts' 220-7 as Matthew Shuttleworth took 3-63 before Jonathan Hudson (5-24) and Jatinder Singh (4-20) skittled out the Cobbydalers for 46.

There was better news for Steeton II, who continued their challenge at the top of Division One with a seven-wicket win at Horsforth II.

They chose to field first and the decision paid dividends as Horsforth were bowled out for 152 in 41.1 overs.

Pick of the Steeton bowlers was undoubtedly Gary Boulton, who bowled seven consecutive maiden overs on his way to taking 4-16, which included fine catches by Paul Hardwick and Phil Barrett. Hardwick weighed in with 4-50 while Luke Watson provided support with 2-26.

An excellent 95-run second-wicket partnership between Matt Price (82no from 79 balls) and Andrew Luxton (30) was the backbone of Steeton's reply as they cruised to victory with 29 overs to spare.

Harden II suffered an embarrassing ten-wicket defeat after they were bowled out for 14 at Colton II, while Silsden II (165) lost at home to Thackley II (166-5).
