STEETON'S Gary Boulton celebrated his 50th birthday by scoring his 50th half-century for the club and hitting the winning runs in a three-wicket triumph at home to Bilton.

A memorable match also saw Oliver Gledhill smash a club-record 31 off one over, while Boulton starred with the ball as well, claiming 4-79 as the Summerhill Lane side returned to the top of Division One in the second-team competition.

Chasing a formidable 265-7, David Robinson got Steeton off to a good start with 27 from 22 deliveries but they had lost both openers with the score on 36. In-form skipper Craig Walton smashed three sixes and six fours to notch 54 from just 35 balls faced, while Gledhill top-scored with an excellent 72 from 34 deliveries. His knock included seven sixes and six fours and the 31 off one over broke his own previous record of 30 that he shared with Graham Harrison.

When Oliver departed, Steeton were 183-6 in the 32nd over. This brought together Boulton - who had turned 50 two days earlier - and veteran Phil Barrett, who saw them close to their target with a seventh-wicket stand of 81.

Fittingly, it was Boulton who saw them over the line, finishing unbeaten on 59 from 48 deliveries.

Steeton had earlier put Bilton into bat, with Lee Heslop making 105 before being dismissed by that man Boulton.

Luke Watson took two good catches in the deep to earn a fielding point.

Silsden II won by seven wickets at Hall Park II, Nicholas Firth making 49no in their 127-3.

Harden II (149) were well beaten by Pool II (227-6).
