LAST SEASON'S struggles were instantly forgotten by Silsden as they secured an impressive victory at home to Upper Wharfedale in a Craven derby.

Having finished rock-bottom of Division Three last year, Chris Meehan's return as skipper has revitalised the Cobbydalers.

Wharfedale batted first and scored a highly creditable 230 as Rupert Bunday hit 85 for the Dalesmen. Bowling was difficult on a very good wicket but Manley du Preez impressed with 7-56 leading the attack. He was ably supported by good spells from Matthew Shuttleworth (1-41) to keep the visitors in check.

In response, the dangerous Callum Lockett (3-82) took Silsden’s openers. However at 41-2, Meehan (63) and promising u-17s player Nick Firth (62) added 127 for the third wicket and this laid the foundation for Silsden.

Jake Starkey (4-56) came into the attack to remove both batsmen but Silsden's middle order all contributed, with last year's captain Hugh Sugden – who had been recalled due to a late withdrawal –and man of the match Du Preez at the crease to reach their target with seven wickets down and 15 overs left.
