SETTLE'S bid to dethrone Clitheroe as Houldsworth Ribblesdale League champions has suffered a setback thanks to Hawke-eye.

The Marshfield outfit slumped to a 31 run defeat as ton-up Steve Hawke swooped on a century for big-hitting Brinscall at School Lane.

Ably supported by Lehann Jansen Van Rensburg's half century, Hawke hammered115 out of the home team's 242-9.

Pro Imran Khalid did his best to stem the run tide for the visitors with 5-86 but Brinscall's final total was a formidable one to overhaul. Saul Ahmed picked up 3-61.

Settle fought back well with an opening partnership of 56 between Robbie Davidson (32) and Asif Fazal (59).

Khalid (36) and Tom Davidson (31) continued the good work, bt the last six wickets fell for 32 runs as Settle were 211 all out. Sam MacLachlan returned figures of 6-61.

Clitheroe didn't waste the opportunity to steal a march at the top of Section A beating Salesbury by six wickets.

Barnoldswick suffered another disappointing afternoon at Victory Park in a match against Whalley that produced five half centuries and another excellent Simon Gorton bowling display.

Abdul Saddique (62) and Kyle Marshall (60) were the mainstays of Barlick's 168 as Gorton finished with 6-65, closing the home innings with a burst of three wickets in four balls.

James Galling led the run chase with an undefeated 72 and Hiken Shah's 53 helped secure a seven-wicket win.

Cherry Tree chased down Earby's 198-9 for the loss of six wickets thanks to Mark Hadfield (57) and Ferisco Adams (68).

Pro Dave Crotty (53) and Ian Clarkson (33) were Earby's top scorers while Adams (4-62) and Robert Ince (3-49) shared the bowling honours.

There was further disappointment for Settle on Sunday when they bowed out of the Lancashire Cup. by five wickets to Lytham.

They were always going to be up against it after being bowled out for just 125 on a good track. Their top scorer was Tom Davidson with 22.

LKytham passed the Settle score in just 30 overs despite the efforts of Hassan Fazal (2-25) and John Davidson (2-16).

Settle are on the road all this weekend. They are at Read for a 20/20 clash tomorrow, at Edenfield in the league on Saturday, and at Whalley for their Ramsbottom Cup clash on Sunday.

Settle seconds made 214, their highest Division One score for a decade, as they defeated Burnley Belvedere by 142 runs at Marshfield.

Peter Cook (31), Jack Harrison (22) and Shaun Airey (14) all set a cracking pace, backed up by 23 from Josh Mullinder in the middle order. But at 84-6, the hosts were struggling until in-form Simon Tarbox compiled 33 runs and his fellow junior James Pickard hit a remarkable maiden half-century.

Batting at nine, Pickard smashed ten fours in an unbeaten knock of 55 to leave Settle in firm control.

Paceman John Tarbox (3-17) was soon among the wickets in reply, while leg-spinner Jason Paul (3-12) swept through the lower order as the visitors crumbled to 73 all out within 28 overs.
