SETTLE took ten points from their home fixture against Euxton, keeping them in second place below Clitheroe in the Senior League, and still with a sniff of the title.

Euxton made 167-8 in their allotted 45 overs, a potentially winning score against many other sides. Hassan Fazal (4-66) and pro Imran Khalid (3-46) did all the hard work, though Settle were frustrated in not seeing off the last two batsmen to claim the extra two points.

In reply, Asif Fazal fell one short of his half-century, and was well supported by his opening partner John Davidson (14).

Khalid then took the game by the scruff of the neck, cracking eight fours and a six in an unbeaten 61, while Robbie Davidson joined in with 30no at a run a ball as Settle crossed the line inside 41 overs for a seven-wicket victory.

This Saturday, Settle make their last visit to Great Harwood as their opponents move up a level to the more challenging Lancashire League next season.

Barnoldswick took the local bragging rights as they defeated neighbours Earby by five wickets to retain their position at the top of the Section B

Earby, who are struggling at the foot of the table, batted first and were dismissed for 159. Number ten batsman Jason Lockley was the top scorer with an unbeaten 33 while Anton Muller was the best of the earlier batsmen with 32.

All five Barnoldswick bowlers picked up wickets, with Sajid Akhtar (3-37) the most successful

Barnoldswick eased to victory with 39 balls to spare with Sri Lankan Shashrika Pussegolla making 63. Opener Abdul Saddique (37) was the other main contributor .

Settle seconds still look on target for promotion to Division One after a comfortable seven-wicket win at Brinscall. It took only 20 overs for Josh Mullinder (6-29) and Damon Barrett (3-40) to reduce the hosts to 71 all out. Mullinder now has the most wickets (36) and the best average (8.29) in Division Two.

Opener Rob Johnson (23) then continued his fine season, while the unbeaten fourth-wicket pair of James Holgate (20) and Kieren Ashley (17) saw Settle home.
