THE Mewies Solicitors Craven League's Cowling Cup competition is to primarily become a Twenty20 event.

All matches leading up to the final will be played over the shorter format, with bowlers being restricted to a maximum of four overs.

However, the final will be over 40 overs per side, with ten overs maximum per bowler, mirroring the Wynn Cup, which will be played over the longer format.

The Wynn Cup will be for all first teams in Divisions One, Two and Three, while the Cowling Cup will be for all second teams, plus first teams and third teams who are in Divisions Four and Five.

However, second teams and third teams in the Cowling Cup must run separate squads.

Once a player has played for the third team, they will be barred from playing for the second team, which will prove restrictive.

All matches will be played on Sundays with a 1pm start, with the draws for both cup competitions being made in January.

Teas will not be provided in the Cowling Cup, for which there will be a 15-minute break between innings, but drinks will be available.

Front-foot no balls will result in a free hit and only five fielders will be allowed on the leg-side at any time.
