Quest Taekwondo’s Natasha Burdock, from Silsden, bagged another gold medal after winning the Serbian Open in front of 1,500 spectators at the Hala Pionir Stadium in Belgrade.

Coached by Rick Simpson, the 15-year-old comfortably won the final 4-1 against Great Britain team-mate Georgia Appleby from BTS (Southampton).

Natasha entered the tournament as it is part of the selection criteria for the Junior World Championships, to be held in Nanjing, China, alongside the Youth Olympics.

This also included the British National Champion-ships, which Natasha also won gold in this year, while the final leg of the selection circuit is the Croatia Open in Zagreb this weekend.

Also competing for Quest Taekwondo at the Serbian Open were Harrogate’s rising stars Tom Henley (16) and Skye Donoghue (12), who went out in the last 16 and the quarter-finals respectively.

Simpson said: “Tom and Skye came here for experience – to compete against a higher standard of competitor that is hard to come by domestically, and here every competitor is really strong.

“They’ve learned a lot from this experience.

“For Natasha, this was not a learning experience, it was business – getting the gold to push her bid for a place in the Junior World Championships and she did that comfortably.”
