VICTORIA Wilkinson from Hebden competed in her first Sky Running Mountain Series Race at the weekend in the spectacular Italian Dolomites.
The gruelling race covers a total of 22k. It began in the town of Canezai at 1,450m and climbed up to the summit of Piz Boe at 3,150m, a typical rocky tower of rock and scree, crossing snow and climbing wires and ladders to then begin the long technical 12k descent down.
Reaching the summit in fourth, Wilkinson lost a bit of time on the descent to finish in sixth position, only a minute off fourth. In front of her were two Spanish, a French, Polish and Finnish girl, who compete on the scene regularly.
The English Fell Running champion races in Switzerland at the next round of the Sky series in two weeks' time, running for Inov8.
