As the season draws to a close the finals of the clubs match play knockouts got under way over a busy weekend at Skipton Golf Club. First up was the ladies Brooksbank final which was contested by Lucy Eaton and Sarah Coy.

The game proved a touch one sided as Lucy got away to an early lead that she never surrendered thanks to a display of fault free golf. Despite her best effort Sarah couldn’t claw anything back with Lucy winning 7&6.

Next up was the men’s club championship played over 36 holes from scratch.

This time, last year's beaten finalist Chris Payne, was up against fellow scratch team player Keith Airey.

This proved to be a much closer contest with first Payne getting off to a good start to be three up after four holes, but Airey quickly had this back to all square thanks to two birdies in the next three holes. After that there was never more than one hole in the match with the advantage changing hands several times.

What proved to be the crucial lead came at the 11th hole in the second round which Payne won to go one up. Holes were then halved until the 16th when Airey hit his second shot to the par five a touch wide and into deep rough.

In the end he could only manage a six to Payne's straight-forward par which put him two up with just two to play.

The drama didn’t end there though. With Payne on the short 17th and an almost certain par in the bag, Airey needed to chip in to take the contest to the last hole.

This he did but then watched in disbelief as his ball then came out againgiving Payne a 2&1 victory and the title of club champion.
