FRESH from his victory in the CIHR trophy, Daniel Pethybridge claimed another top prize at Skipton Golf Club in the Rabbits Knockout final.

In a dramatic match, his opponent Paul Kilner took the early advantage and stood on the ninth tee at 1up. By the time they were playing the 14th however he was four down as Pethybridge reeled off wins at five holes in a row.

Kilner, however, was not finished and produced some scintillating golf, including birdies at 15,17 and 18 to level the match at the 18th.

Sudden death lasted just one hole but was no less dramatic. Both players missed the green at the par three first hole , with Kilner in the bunker. First to go was Pethybridge, whose chip was played to near perfection leaving only a short putt for a three. Kilner almost holed his bunker shot but crucially ran about eight feet past and his putt for a three stopped agonisingly on the edge of the hole. Pethybridge duly tapped his in to claim victory.

The Barrett Cup final was played between Matt Ryder and Tom Wilman. After an early exchange of holes Wilman found himself two up after the tenth and crucially won the 11th after an excellent chip to save par. With Ryder only able to make a four Wilman was now three up. The 13th and 14th holes in the end proved decisive, with Wilman getting a shot at each hole. Ryder, needing birdies, made valiant attempts at both of them but Wilman played flawless golf over the same stretch to give him a deserved 5&4 victory.

There was a disappointing turnout for the final Summer Medal at SETTLE GOLF CLUB on Sunday.

Many of the competitors struggled with the conditions, although as ever there were exceptions. In Division One, former captain Patrick Daley managed a two-under par nett 70 despite having two double bogeys on his card. His 83-13 = 70 enabled him to hold off the challenge of Steve Bennett ,despite the latter carding the lowest gross score of the day.

In Division Two, Ian Plimmer rolled back the years to come in with a one-under par 71.

Having enjoyed recent success in the team game format, Plimmer converted this form into his singles game. His 99-28 =71 gave him an incredible 12-shot winning margin over his closest rival, playing partner Peter Wroe.
