A BRACE of Montesa machines dominated the first round of Bradford Motor Club's closed championship series at cool Deer Park on New Year's Day, with Glusburn builder Nathan Wrigglesworth edging out Thomas Rushton.

A total of 63 competitors in three different classes rode a compact ten-section course.

And Wrigglesworth, riding his Montesa 315, won the expert class from Rushton by the finest of margins, winning by virtue of a farthest clean.

Rushton dropped a mark in the eighth section on lap one, while the South Cravener only wobbled on the climb at the fourth. Sam Boocock nailed third place and top novice.

Barnoldswick engineer Anthony Ayrton rode his hybrid Montesa 2RT to a class win on the clubman course, where 20 riders contended.

The marks were tight in all classes and that includes the 50-50 course, which fell to heating engineer Andy Tales with a mark in the wall side grass and rocks at the third and another single on the twisting gully climb at the sixth.

In the youth classes, Falcon's rising star William Tolson just contained Keighley's Jacob Snowdon, who dropped 11 marks in the ninth section compared with Tolson's quartet.

In the 50/50 sections, Edward Earle's fourth place overall was by far the best of the young set.

Silsden's Gabby Whitham was the Class B winner, while Class C boy Harry Hemingway got his Beta home ahead of Charlie Danvers, newcomer George Bell and Class D national champion Josh McParland.

Meanwhile, another descendant of the Lampkin family entered the trials scene for the first time at the Deer Park trial.

Fourteen year old George Bell competed in his first motorcycle trial, riding an 80cc Beta machine.
The South Craven School pupil was nervous but settled down to display the typical Lampkin style of riding.

Watched by his mother Nina and father Richard, plus grandfather Alan Lampkin, he competed against his cousins Harry and George Hemingway.
