East Morton landlord Martin Crosswaite won Horsforth DMC's Basic Memorial Trial at cold a breezy Blubberhouses on Sunday.

The Montesa rider missed Stocksbridge and Yarnbury and that allowed Rawdon's Sam Beecroft-Penny to climb above the title-chaser on 41 championship points.

The Sherco mounted contender has really hit top form this year. He missed the top spot on Sunday but only by virtue of Crosswaite riding 34 of the 36 sections without penalty. Sam managed 31 faultless rides through the tricky Horsforth Motor Club sections.

Leading the series is 2009 Centre champion Phil Disney. The Crossroads rider has 60 points in the bag.

Guiseley's Danny Cockshott topped the Inter class ahead of Flockton's Nigel Crowther. The latter was giving a new Scorpa machine an outing.

Two eight mark penalties in Section 8 dropped Burley novice down the overall results but he was clear of Ossett teenager Thomas Housecroft.

Despite the inclement weather in recent weeks, judicious section marking by Martin Fairburn and his team ensured a low scoring championship event for just 50 contestants.

The out and return sections were mild and cleaned by the front runners. Crosswaite, Haley and Centre champion Sam Yeadon failed the ninth section where Beecroft-Penny lost a mark. Only stonemason Nathan Wrigglesworth mastered the rocks on both laps.

The next event in the championship list is the Jack Leslie Ellis Trial at Winksley on April 5.
