TALENTED young runner Sam Smith from Silsden completed a title double within the space of two and a half hours.

His first win came at Catterick, where he won the North Yorkshire Schools year six boys final representing Craven, having won through two previous rounds to get there.

Just two and a half hours later, after a dash back to Silsden with tired legs, the Bradleys Both Primary School was running again in the Keighley and Craven Schools Cross Country League.

The ten-year-old finished second but this was enough to claim joint first place overall with Alexander Thompson from Steeton Primary School in the year five/six boys.

His school team also claimed first place in the league.

If that wasn’t enough for Sam, the following day he ran the final round of the Bradford Schools Cross Country League, finishing second and claiming second place in the overall standings.

Running for his club Wharfedale Harriers, Sam continued his good form by claiming third place in the under-12s category at the first Fell Racing Association junior championship race from Erwood Hall in Derbyshire last Saturday.

Also winning for Craven in the North Yorkshire Schools finals were Sam Benson (year five boys) and Lilli Carr (year six girls).
