SETTLE golfers competing for the Bernard Cox trophy were confronted by testing playing conditions and this was reflected in their scoring.

Only three players managed 30 or more stableford points, with Colin Green's 35 giving him the early lead.

John Read, having set a creditable 34-point target, found himself in an unfamiliar second spot, with Ken Ratcliffe in third.

The afternoon competitors found conditions just as difficult and none of the players were able to match the scores posted earlier in the day, so Green subsequently took the trophy.

GHYLL GOLF CLUB'S Seniors Championship was won by David Taylforth with a 73-12=61. Second was Ghyll president Ivan Rhodes with 81-11=70. The Ford Competition was won by Neil Clapham (78-13=65).

The Division One winner was Craig Lemon with a net 66 while the Division Two winner was Shaun Lemon with a net 66 and the Division Three winner was Trevor Towers with a net 73.
