SKIPTON Swimming Club are celebrating after two of their swimmers qualified for the ASA National Championships in August.

Thirteen-year-old Luke Midgley, from Silsden, a year eight pupil at South Craven School, attained his 50m breaststroke qualifying time of 36.11 seconds and third place in the final at the ASA North East Region (ASANER’s) Age Group Championships held at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge.

Luke was also fourth in the 100m breaststroke final, with a time of 1min 20.47sec, and seventh in the 200m breaststroke final in 2.59.97.

Twelve-year-old Hannah Raistrick clinched her place in the nationals when taking the bronze medal in the 50m butterfly in a new club record time of 31.14

A personal best time of 1.11.73 in the 100m butterfly was a second club record for the talented swimmer as she again finished third and she completed a hat-trick of bronze medals in the 50m freestyle. Raistrick was also eighth in the finals of the 50m breaststroke and 50m backstroke and was ninth in the 100m backstroke.

Ned Sharpe qualified for nine events over the two weekends (50, 100, 200, and 400 freestyle, 100 and 200m backstroke, 50 and 100m butterfly, and 200m individual medley).

He was a finalist in 50m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 100m backstroke, 50m butterfly and was reserve finalist for 400m freestyle.

His outstanding efforts were rewarded with two silver medals in the 50m freestyle with a time of 29.30 and the 50m butterfly where he clocked 32.40.

He also broke six club records for the 50, 100 and 200m freestyle, 200m backstroke and 50m butterfly.

Abi Field, who won two gold and two silver medals at the recent Harrogate Spa meeting, achieved a personal best time while making first reserve in the girls 12 years 50m backstroke and set a club record of 30.91 in the 50m freestyle.

Sam King swam in the 13 years boys 100m backstroke and was eighth with a time of 1:15.76, while Bea Waller contested the in the 14 year girls 100 and 200m backstroke

She swam a long course personal bests in both events of 1.11.71 in the 100m where she was 16th, and 2.34.01 in the 200 to take 16th place.

Tom Barrett competed in three events boys 14 years 400m individual medley, 50m breaststroke and 200m breaststroke.

He qualified for two finals coming eighth in the 50m and seventh in the 200 where he beat his personal best time by five seconds.

Joel Phillip, 12, had five qualifying swims in the boys 13 years age group. He secured three long course personal bests and was reserve finalist in the boys 50m butterfly with a club-record time of 32.98. Phillip was seventh in 400m individual medley with a time of 5.45.13.

Ethan Camsey swam in three events in the boys14 age group and shattered his previous best performances in each of them. He knocked five seconds off his best time while coming 12th in the 400m individual medley with a time of 5:26.04.

In the 100m backstroke he was 13th in 1:10.60 and took four seconds off his best time when taking 11th place in the 200m backstroke in 2.28.36.

Overall Skipton finished an amazing 19th out of 27 clubs.
