THE re-arranged penultimate Skipton Winter League fixture was fished last Sunday on the Long Ing length of the canal at Barnoldswick in contrasting conditions to those the competitors would have faced the week before had the match not been postponed due to the atrocious weather.

There was hardly any wind for most of the allotted three hours, a breeze just picking up towards the end of the match. Dull weather prevailed throughout although the temperature was on the low side. The fish did not seem to mind and some good weights were recorded which consisted of plenty of roach and/or decent size skimmer bream taken on the maggot, bread punch or the caster.

In the individual event, Graham Waterfall had a good bag of roach to win with 2,510g (5:8:8). Russell Heaton had mainly skimmers for his second place weight of 1,540g (3:6:0) while David Fenn was third with 1,340g (1:15:4).

Other leading weights were: 4 Andy Wharton 770g (1:11:4), 5 Bill Davenport 760g (1:10:12) and 6 Mick Cockshott 620g (1:6:0).

The leading pairs weights were well spaced out with Waterfall & Chenior having an easy win with 2,750g (6:0:12) to Heaton & Aldis in second spot with 2,040g (4:8:0).

Other weights were: 3 D & R Fenn 1,340g (1:15:4), 4 Wharton & Magner 920g (2:0:4) and 5 Davenport & Bradley 760g (1:11:0).

With just one match remaining to be fished, the leading contenders are – Individuals: 1 David Fenn 138pts, 2 Darren Wright 136, 3 Russell Heaton 122, 4 Andy Wharton 120, 5 Jason Aldis 97 and 6 Wayne Eason 91.

Pairs. 1 D & R Fenn 63, 2 Heaton & Aldis 56, 3 Wright & Thomas 51, 4 Waterfall & Chenior 48 and 5 Wharton & Magner 42.

In the Pairs knockout final, the Fenns recorded an easy win over Wright & Thomas with a weight of 1,340g against 370g. In the Individual Knockout semi-finals, G Waterfall beat D Wright by 2,510g to 370g whilst S. Chenior beat M. Bradley by 240g to 0g.

The last match of the series will be fished this Sunday on the Marina stretch of the canal at Barnoldswick which is well known for producing some excellent weights if conditions are right.
