BEA Waller won an impressive four gold medals as the Skipton Swimming Club squad sparkled in the two-day City of Bradford Winter Gala at Shipley.

Waller, competing in the 14 and over age group, produced personal best swims to secure her four victories in the 400m freestyle (4:44.12) – which was also a new club record – 200m freestyle (2:17.8), 200m individual medley (2.35.65) and 100m breaststroke (1:25.09). For good measure she also picked up a bronze medal in the 50m freestyle.

Ten-year-old Hermione Roe picked up three gold medals and a silver as well as setting new club records in each of her events.

She won the 200m breaststroke in 3:14.42, 50m breaststroke in 40.00, and the 50m freestyle in 31.27. Her second place came in the 50m backstroke where she clocked 38.02.

Eleven-year-old Madison Turner swam in seven races and set personal bests, which were also Yorkshire qualifying times, in all of them. Two of her times beat the North East regional qualifying mark.

Turner gained golds in the 200m backstroke and 50m backstroke and picked up silvers for the 50m breaststroke and 200m individual medley.

There were two gold medals and seven personal best swims for 12-year-old Ellen Wright. She won the 50m breaststroke in 39.41 and 100m breaststroke in 1:28.17.

Paige Fenton had a busy time as she competed in eight events in which she set seven personal best times. The 12-year-old was rewarded for her efforts with two gold, two silver and one bronze medal. Her victories came in the 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke.

Megan Baines won one gold and six silver medals. She recorded seven personal best times and achieved eight Yorkshire qualifying times. He victory came in the 100m freestyle.

Little nine-year-old Lily Mae Pratt won the 50m freestyle in 36.38 and was just pushed into second place in the 200m. She picked up a bronze in the 50m backstroke.

William Oliver, Edward Sharp, Tom Barrett, Ethan Camsey, Hannah Raistrick, Sam King, Luke Midgley, Lauren Hanson and Fenn Curran all produced wins as Skipton ended the year in style.

One swimmer whose efforts didn’t earn a medal, but were worthy of praise nonetheless, was Bradley Brennand. He set personal bests in all eight events he entered.
