THE early starters enjoyed the best of the weather conditions in the first of the new season's competition at Settle over the weekend.
John Read produced one of his customary consistent rounds which earned him 34 Stableford points, giving him a two-point lead in the clubhouse over Peter Wroe.
Most of the later competitors struggled to cope with the heavy squally showers, however, newly-elected captain Chris Ward proved to be the exception, coming home with an outstanding 36 points. This proved to be the best score of the day, giving Ward first place.
Settle will be hoping for a good turnout this weekend for their men's foursomes competition where players have the opportunity to qualify for the national Daily Mail competition.
