SKIPTON Swimming Club crowned a successful evening in the Airedale & Wharfedale District Winter Gala by winning the last race to scoop the team prize.
They had been fighting a neck and neck battle with East Leeds all night but victory in the mixed 8 x 1 cannon race for the fastest swimmer in each age group saw them take the title by three points.
Their cannon team of Lily-Mae Pratt, Jack Jenkinson, Hermione Roe, Ned Sharp, Hannah Raistrick, Luke Midgley, Lauren Hanson and Ethan Camsey took first place in 1min 53.8sec.
The lead in the team event has changed hands throughout the gala. but neither Skipton not East Leeds could ever pull clear of their rivals.
Skipton won 13 of the individual race through Pratt, Jack Jenkinson, Roe, Sharp, Raistrick, Midgley, Hanson, Paige Fenton, Camsey and Ellen Wright. There were also seven relay wins.
Team trophy: Skipton 228, East Leeds 225, Bingley 176, Bradford Swimming Club 171, Bradford Dolphins 147, Kippax 95.
