THE Hargreaves Ltd Summer Doubles qualifying round held at Sutton and Crosshills last Thursday, produced four good pairs for the final.

Sponsor Trevor Hargreaves paired up with his son Richard to get through at Crosshills, but they had to work hard in their final game to get past Warren Burnett Jnr and Tony Langstroth 15-13.

The other qualifiers at Crosshills were the Silsden pair of Billy Cater and Barry Turnbull. They found themselves 12-8 down against Peter Shaw and Les Foster, but turned it round to win 15-12.

The qualifying round at Sutton was mistakenly played up to 21, and so caused a very late finish with the last pairs getting through in the dark.

But Chris Wilson and Andrew Tate and Paul Kaye and Bob Jeffries went through at the expense of Ian Bernard and Graham Perry and Martyn Cox and Paul Drinkall.

The semi-finals and final will be held at Broughton Road on Sunday, July 3 with a 6.45pm start time.

The Inter District Veterans found it tough going against a much-improved West Riding side.

The home match at Craven saw Skipton have four winners. The best was Derek Seed's 21-12 success.

Cliff Taylor and Les Buxton both won 21-14 while Arnold Ripley edged home 21-19. Their efforts earned Skipton a ten-point margin and a 16-12 win.

The away side found things very difficult at Thornhill where they just managed one winner, Alister Keighley 21-13.

It meant that Skipton suffered a big loss 24-4, so the overhaul result was a 36-20 defeat.

With just one league match last week, Cononley A produced a good win over Crosshills A 9-3, to open up a 19-point lead over Keighley A at the top of the Walker Foster first division.

Keighley A had no game but stay in second place one point a head of Crosshills A.

Lund Park A continue to lead the James Pye & Son Division Two after a comfortable 10-2 home win over Colne Legion B, they now have 121 points.

Devon B remain second after a 8-4 home win over Oakworth. Whinfield A are third after a 9-3 home win over Gargrave B, then a 7-5 win against Cononley B in a rearranged match.

That was Cononley B’s second loss after they went down 8-4 at Addingham A, so they remain in fourth place.

Leaders Grassington have an 11-point lead in Division Three after recording an 8-2 away win over third-placed Crosshills C. Steeton B defeated Broughton Road B 7-3 to move into second place.

Devon bowler Martin Lee performed to his best when he won the trophy dedicated to his father Peter H Lee.

This season's competition was held at Broughton Road and Martin found himself drawn in the preliminary round, so had four matches to win the trophy.

A semi-final win over Michael Claxton put him up against Arnold Ripley in the final.

It proved a tough match as the weather deteriorated with Martin winning 21-15.
