SKIPTON Scorpions have become the first winners of the Upper Airedale Junior Cricket Association's under-nines pairs final at Sandylands.

The 20-over match saw Settle bat first and make 29 runs with their skipper Harvey Green leading the way with a modest six runs.

The Stags total was severely curtailed by a strong Scorpions bowling unit which captured 14 wickets. Elspeth Protheroe was the Scorpions’ leading bowler with 3-10, backed by 2-0 from Moheed Shafiq and 2-3 for Ryan Lee.

The Scorpions fared much better with the bat, led by captain Aaron Macrae with 13 and Moheed with 17. Their tally of 71-5 had the Scorpions as clear winners despite a gallant Stags bowling effort by Harvey Green and Jack Caton.
