SAM Bugler earned family bragging rights as he edged out dad Bob to win the Slater Centenary Trophy at Ghyll Golf Club.

Nine pars contributed to a round of 82-17-66 as Sam beat his father by a shot, with Bob having to settle for the Division Two prize after his 80-13-67.

Seahan Grace (75-7-68) and Kevin Honeyman (89-21-68) were respectively the pick of Divisions One and Three.

Meanwhile, a card play-off involving three couples – all with 41 stableford points – was required to determine the result of the Mixed Open.

Linda and Dave Smith (Nelson GC) were the eventual winners, while Vicki and Richard Patchett (Ilkley GC) and Ghyll's current Mixed Winter League champions Stephanie Robinson and Peter Rhodes were second and third respectively.

In the Senior Men's Open, Ghyll captain Alexander Russell partnered Ian Magill to victory by a single point.

Magill's par on the last hole proved vital as he and the irrepressible Russell posted a score of 48 stableford points to edge out playing partners and defending champions Ray Duckworth (Ghyll) and Roger Brennan (Clitheroe GC).

Derek Winder (Earby) and Andy Wilkinson (Ghyll) took third spot with 46 points, while P Blezard and P Battersby (Leyland GC) were fourth.

Derick Hartley (79-14-65) ran out the winner in the June Senior Medal ahead of Magill (79-11-68) and Andy Wilkinson (81-11-70).

On the junior front, Spencer Datkiewicz (73 and 72) lifted 'the crouching jaguar', the impressive and appropriate symbol for the Hunter Trophy played over two rounds.

He finished ahead of Robert Nesbitt (73 and 80), while junior captain Jonathan Davies (74 and 80) and Freddie Paxton (75 and 79) shared third spot.

Jonathan Davies (36 points) won the Derek Turner Memorial Trophy on the card from Archie Paxton, whose brother Freddie was one point back in third.

Ghyll's ladies, despite many close games, could only manage to beat Beverley at home in their Yorkshire Ladies inter-club home and away matches against Keighley, Wike Ridge and Beverley.

They certainly enjoyed the experience of playing the impressive Wike Ridge course for the first time and the challenge of avoiding the roaming cattle and long grass at Beverley.

Debbie Richardson (98-28-70) won her first competition at Ghyll by taking the Thompson Trophy, finishing well ahead of Janet Whipp (111-31-80), Barbara Chapman (99-19-80) and Alex Iveson (113-33-80)
