WITH just five games to go in the Skipton and District Bowling season the race for the Walker Foster Division One title is still closely fought.

Leaders Cononley A had a bit of a wobble at Keighley A, but still retain a two-point advantage over Crosshills A.

The match at Royd Ings Lane was always going to be a tough test and so it proved. Keighley A were at full strength and ran out 9-3 winners.

Steve Morris 21-7 and Richard Hargreaves 21-10 were the best performers for Keighley while Stuart Myers 21-6 was best of Cononley’s three winners.

Crosshills A did their best to close the gap on the leaders with an 11-1 home win over Silsden PF A, but Crosshills A but they have played one game more than their title rivals.

Colne Cricket Club had a good week with a 12-0 win over Steeton A, followed by a 9-3 win against Devon A which moved them into fourth place.

James Pye and Son Second Division leaders Lund Park A didn't have a game and saw their closest challengers Devon B go down 9-3 at Sutton B.

Cononley B won 8-4 at home to Keighley B, while Whinfield A are fourth after a 9-3 home win over Colne Legion B.

Grassington and Broughton Road B are having a good tussle at the top of the Skipton Building Society Division Three.

Grassington got the better this week with a 9-3 home win over Keighley C, while Broughton Road B picked up a 7-3 away win at Steeton C, that leaves Grassington with 153 points and Broughton Road B on 148.

Steeton B are third after an 8-2 home win over Whinfield C, Crosshills are fourth after drawing 5-5 at Silsden PF C.

The Clarkson and Supplementary Ambulance Cup finals take place tonight.

Broughton Road will host the Clarkson Cup final between Gargrave A and Skipton Devon A. It should be a good close match, the teams are sixth and seventh in the first division with Gargrave receiving 15 points on the handicap.

The Supplementary Cup final will be held at Silsden. Struggling Division One side Crosshills B will take on Division Two outfit Whinfield A.

It will be a chance for Crosshills B to end the season with a bit of success, though Whinfield A have had a good campaign and with 15 points advantage, will be hopeful of success.

The Inter District Veterans complete their season with a match against Wakefield this Friday, the home match will be at Sutton Park, the away venue is not available.

The Senior Inter District side have their annual one-day event this Sunday, the hosts this year are Huddersfield.

Skipton will play their group games at Almondbury Liberal Club, the other two teams in the group are Wakefield and East Coast.
