CRAVEN Summer League competitors fished the final match of this summer’s series of eight matches last Sunday on the Broughton Road length of the canal at Skipton.

Conditions would have been quite reasonable had it not been for the strong and blustery wind which blew with the current and made fishing difficult.

Even so, weights were about normal but comprised mainly of small roach, perch and skimmers although one or two roach were of a decent size and a single perch weighed in at 590g (1:4:12).

Danny Bolland recorded an easy win with 1,280g (2:13:0) whilst in second spot was Jason Aldis with 980g (2:2:8). Other leading weights were: 3 Kenny Wright 860g (1:14:12); 4 Ernie Ramsbotham 590g (1:4:12) and 5 Andrew Thomas and Rob Thornton 370g (0:13:0).

The final league placing were decided on the best six results out of a possible maximum of eight.

The first three anglers had all fished only six matches but their results proved to be sufficient although pre-match league leader, Russell Heaton, dropped to third spot due to his poor showing in the match.

Leading final league placings: 1 Jason Aldis 127pts, 2 Danny Bolland 124, 3 Russell Heaton 120, 4 Kenny Wright 116, 5 Andrew Thomas 112, 6 Rob Thornton 107, 7 Keith Brown and Mark Bradley 104, 9 Graeme Waterfall 103 and 10 Simon Chenior and Ernie Ramsbotham 102.

The Skipton Winter League commences on September 18 at Swine Lane, Riddlesden. Full details may be obtained from the league secretary, Bill Davenport on 01756 799671 or 07581082576.

The third Skipton AA members only match will take place this Sunday on Whinnygill Reservoir with the draw at 8.15am and fishing from 9am until noon.

The River Aire has been fishing well recently due to a good water level and plenty of members have been in action, mainly fishing the fly on the middle lengths.

Decent trout to 910g (2:0:0) and grayling to over the 450g(1:0:0) have been landed in good catches.

The first recorded capture of a decent chub this season has been made by Darren Benn when he tempted a 1350g (3:0:0) plus specimen from the Heslaker Lane stretch using worm bait.
