THERE was an encouraging turn out for the inaugural playing of Settle's Memorial Trophy this weekend.

Les Brown, making a rare appearance in the club competition, became the first player to get his name on the trophy.

Despite not scoring on two holes, Brown, playing off a handicap of ten, still managed to come home with 37 stableford points, his card containing 10 pars and one birdie.

Sam Wilcock, having had two shots cut off his handicap the previous week, still took the runners up spot with 36 points.

Wilcock made a remarkable comeback after not scoring on three of the first four holes. His back nine score of 20 contained five net birdies.
