IT’S all over barring the Xmas Cheer match but at least the Skipton Winter League’s final fixture finished on an high with over 15kg of good quality fish turning up last Sunday on the Long Ing length of the canal at Barnoldswick.

Most of the fish caught were decent sized roach averaging about 230g (0:8:0) plus three big bream and a similar number of smallish pike.

Average size roach and perch made up some good back-up weights and all of the competitors had fish to weigh-in at the end of the three hour match.

Danny Bolland led the top weights with 2,960g (6:8:4) which comprised of 12 roach and a bream. Andy Wharton was second with an all roach catch of 2320g (5:1:12) while Bob Fenn had a couple of good bream for his third place weight of 2080g (4:9:4).

Other leading weights were: 4 Andrew Thomas 1,870g (4:2:0) – 2 pike, 5 Terry Bolland 1,660g (3:10:8) – mainly small fish, 6 Ernest Ramsbotham 1,220g (2:11:0) – good roach on the worm.

The final individual positions are: 1 Dave Fenn 122pts, 2, Rob Thornton 113, 3 Kenny Wright 99. 4 Jason Aldis 97, 5 Danny Bolland 96, 6 Andrew Thomas 78.

In the pairs event, the results were: 1 D & T Bolland 4,620g (10:2:8); 2 Thomas & Wharton 4,190g (9:3:8), 3 D & R Fenn 2,940g (6:7:8), 4 Ramsbotham & Young 1,220g (2:11:0), 5 Wright & Thornton 1,030g (2:4:4), 6 Leatt & Mawson 700g (1:8:12).

Final positions were as follows: 1 Wright & Thornton 64pts, 2 D & R Fenn 63, 3 D & T Bolland 47, 4 Thomas & Wharton 46, 6 Aldis & Heaton 44.

In the individual knockout final, Danny Bolland easily beat Dave Fenn by 2,960g to 860g.

This Sunday will see the culmination of this season’s matches with the Xmas Cheer being fished on the Marina length at Barnoldswick.

There is no entry fee but competitors should take a prize to the value of around £8.

If conditions are right, this length can produce some outstanding weights and in November 2012 a similar match was won by Skipton’s Darren Wright with almost 19.9kg (44 lb) of bream averaging 1,140g (2:8:0). This still the league’s individual record weight for a three-hour match and all the bream fell to halibut pellets.
