VICTORIA Wilkinson has shattered the women's record for the gruelling Three Peaks Race and collected a £500 bonus.

The 38-year-old from Hebden knocked an incredible five minutes and 24 seconds off the previous best time which was set by Anna Pichrtova, from the Czech Republic, when the Three Peaks hosted the World Long Distance Mountain Running Championships in 2008.

The Bingley Harriers’ runner finished in 13th place overall in three hours nine minutes and nine seconds.

The race won by Murray Strain, 34, from Hunters Bog Trotters in Edinburgh. He set a time of two hours, 49 minutes and 38 seconds.

The runners tackled 5,279ft of ascent across a 23-mile course over Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.

It was the third time Wilkinson had won the women's race and her record run was 12 minutes faster than her previous best for the course.

Her next race is a English Fell Running Championship event at Barnoldswick on May 28.
