COLNE Cricket Club extend their lead to ten points at the head of the JACS Merit League Division One.

With just four games to go they found just the right time produce their best result of the season.

The leaders took Gargrave A apart with a 12-0 win which saw them finish 210-114 up on aggregate. John Whitaker was in top form with a 21-7 win.

The victory puts Cricket Club on 116 points – ten ahead of Keighley A and last season's champions Cononley A.

The title holders did themselves a good turn with a 8-4 home win over Keighley A, leaving the teams level on 106 points.

Crosshills A won 9-3 at Settle A to remain in fourth place on 87 points.

The result left Settle A in a four-way fight to avoid the two relegation places.

Broughton Road A produced a great 9-3 away win at local rivals Devon A, while Sutton A lost 8-4 at Silsden.

Colne Legion A and Silsden Playing Fields A are close to clinching the two promotion places from Division Two after both had big home wins.

Colne Legion A won 12-0 against Cononley B while Silsden PF A won 10-2 against Oakworth.

That leaves Legion on 128 points and Silsden PF A on 123. Lund Park A leapt into third place at the expense of Crosshills B who they beat 9-3.

At the bottom, Cononley B look destined for relegation with just 46 points. Devon B’s win moved them up to 67 points, Gargrave B have 71 and Steeton A 74.

It is close at the top of Division Three. Rolls Royce are top after an 8-4 win at home to Colne Legion B put them on 106 points. Whinfield A won away at Broughton Road B 8-4, while Keighley B beat Grassington at home by the same margin. Both teams are on 101 points with Broughton Road B fourth on 86 points.

The other six teams in the division are in a relegation fight with just seven points covering them.

Craven picked up another win 6-4 at Keighley C to keep them on track for the fourth division title.

They now have 131 points, and lead Steeton B by 23 points. Steeton B have two games in hand but look unlikely to catch Craven. Crosshills C are third with 100 points, Gargrave C 91 and Sutton C 81 points are fourth and fifth.

In the Walker Foster 54321 League, Keighley A got another win while their nearest rivals both lost.

Keighley A beat Silsden PF A 42-27, which as put them 57 points clear of Devon A.

Both Devon A and Cononley A lost ground. Devon A lost at Sutton A 43-35, while Cononley A lost 42-31 at Gargrave A.

Division Two leaders Colne Legion A picked another win at Devon B 40-35 to keep them clear at the top with 597 points.

Lund Park A won 44-19 at home to give them 576 points, keeping them in a solid second place.

Steeton A took advantage of Devon B’s loss with a 45-33 home win over Oakworth to move them into third place.

The Skipton Building Society Division Three leaders are Rolls Royce who scored another big home win by 45-21 over struggling Lund Park A.

Silsden PF B won 42-26 at home to Whinfield B to keep them in second place, as Keighley B went down 46-32 at Addingham A.

Division Four leaders Craven got their 12th win with a 30-27 away victory at Silsden PF C, Gargrave C are second with Silsden PF C in third.

Robbie Ellis had a good week at the Fleetwood Bowling Festival reaching three competition semi-finals.

He lost in the main competition to Dave Gwilliam 21-20 and felt he should really have reached the final after being in front with chances to take the match.

The Fleetwood Shield saw Robbie go down 21-8 to Ashley Dakin, while in the Strawberry Gardens event he lost 21-15 to Billy Speed.

The Hargreaves Ltd League Merit will take place this Sunday at Alkincoates PWA in Colne with a 11am start. Entries are still welcome.

The Dick Keighley Cup will take place on Sunday, August 13, this competition is for none Division One bowlers.

Any teams wishing to enter the floodlight league must get entered as soon as possible.
