SKIPTON Swimming Club's Ned Sharp was in great form in the British Summer Championships at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.

The 13-year-old won a gold and two silvers as well as setting two all-time British records and recording a string of personal best times.

His gold medal came in the 13/14 year 50m butterfly event where he qualified for the final by taking second place in his heat in 27.22.

In a fast-paced final he succeeded in securing the title in a British record time for his age of 26.22.

Sharp had come close to victory in the 100m freestyle where he was just pipped to gold after following up a personal best 54.72 in the heats with 53.85 in the final which beat the previous British record for a 13 year old.

He was also a close second in the 50m freestyle with a personal best of 24.77 earning him the silver medal.

The 100m butterfly saw him set a personal best of 1:00.95 in the heats which he bettered when coming ninth in the final with a time of 1

n the 100m butterfly event he swam a personal best in the heats of 1:00.95 and yet another in the finals coming ninth in a time of 1:00.10.

The 200m freestyle was the fifth event in which he met the qualifying standard with a time of 2:06.67.

The British & National Summer Championships 2017 are a fitting finale for Ned competing with his home club as he has been awarded a sports scholarship to study at Ellesmere College and train with the Ellesmere College Titans in Shropshire in September.

The Titans coaches and Skipton's head coach, Ian Scrivin will be in close collaboration as Sharp will continue to train with Skipton during the school holidays.
