SKIPTON Golf Club Junior Captain, Max Berrisford, finished off the year in some style winning the men’s section Club Championship after a hard-fought contest with Chris Payne.

The final was played over 36 holes and produced some thrilling golf but Berrisford always had the upper hand.

The first round was a cagey affair with Berrisford going two up after five holes.

Payne is a wily campaigner and never let Berrisford get too far in front and at the end of the first 18 holes Berrisford only was only one up.

Payne quickly got this back to all square in the second round but the game looked to have taken the decisive turn from the sixth hole.

Berrisford, playing immaculate golf, birdied five holes in a row to be five up with eight holes to play.

Payne pulled one back at the 11th with a birdie and wins at the 13th, 14th and 15th holes saw Berrisford’s lead cut to just one up with three holes to play.

It was still the same score playing the final hole but Berrisford was not to be denied, sealing the contest with yet another birdie to win the match two up to round off a wonderful year.
