SKIPTON Golf Club’s Rabbits signed off the season in style by winning the Bradford Union Rabbits Team Championship, crowning a great season for captain Matt Oxley.

The competition played at Calverley was a best of three nett scores to count from a team of four, and the team of Ian Pawson, Dean Holmes, Sam Stewart and Thomas Mountain came out on top with some to spare.

Last year the Skipton outfit had the agony of finishing runners-up but this year their total of 200 was eight clear of their nearest rivals. Along with the major prize, Holmes also took first place for best nett score, with Stewart’s nett 65 taking the prize for best visitor.

Meanwhile, Skipton youngster Max Berrisford continued his fantastic season by picking up more silverware while representing the Bradford Union.

He beat 47 of the best juniors in the county to take the 36-hole scratch trophy in the Yorkshire Inter-District Junior Team Championship at Sitwell Park with rounds of 73 and 68 for a total of 141.

Harry Ayrton, also from Skipton, playing off six took the best afternoon gross score of 70.

*Despite difficult playing conditions, there were some outstanding returns from Settle golfers competing in the Peter Robinson Cup.

Chris Ward’s nett 71, playing off 13, proved good enough to take first place. He just held off the challenge of the previous week’s medal winner Peter Wroe, whose

nett 73 put him in the runners-up spot.

The most disappointed competitor must have been the lowest handicapper on the day, Steven Robinson, who played through 17 holes without dropping a shot to his seven

handicap.

However, disaster struck on the final hole, where a combination of unfortunate circumstances resulted in Robinson taking an 11, leaving him with a final

nett six over par 76.

This was in fact still good enough to give him the lowest gross score of the day.
