WORK mates Les Foster and Peter Shaw team up to win the Skipton League Doubles.

Skipton Devon player Foster and Skipton Craven’s Shaw, joined forces to make a winning partnership at Sutton Bowling Club.

A very disappointing entry saw the doubles take place on one green with no qualifying round required. Howver, those taking part had a good day.

The semi-finals saw Les Foster and Peter Shaw get the better of Bev Guffick and Carol Harrison 15-7.

The other semi was an all Craven affair with Mick Demain and Warren Burnett jnr beating Warren Burnett snr and Catherine Leigh 15-4.

The final was much closer with Foster and Shaw just getting the better of Demain and Burnett 21-12. Former league president Warren Burnett presented the cash prizes.

The Yorkshire Merit qualifying round took place at Broughton Road, and the successful bowlers were Peter Clark and Trevor Hargreaves. The final was held at Cleckheaton Sports on Bank Holiday Monday,

Peter Clark had a good first round win over Yorkshire team captain Bob Hitchin 21-17, then succumbed to Thongsbridge bowler Craig Gant 21-14.

Trevor Hargreaves lost his first round match to Jason Worsnop 21-15.

Gant went on to become the Yorkshire Merit Champion with a 21-14 win against James Wilcox from Crossgates.

Last season’s Clarkson Cup winners Keighley A and runners up Devon A both went out in the first round of this year's competition.

Keighley A lost to Whinfield A 196-194, while Devon A lost to Cononley B 225-223.

Broughton Road A got the better of Gargrave A with a 223-218 win, another couple of close matches, saw Silsden PF B win 261-253 against Lund Park A while Rolls Royce just got the better of Addingham 262-252.

The final three matches saw wins for Colne Legion A beat Silsden P F A 229-203, Settle B overcome Steeton B 307-248 and Sutton A defeat Steeton A 229-182.

The Supplementary Cup saw just four matches as teams withdrew through lack of numbers.

Sutton B had a very close match with Gargrave B going through 263-261 while Whinfield B got the better of Devon B 276-263.

Colne Cricket Club proved to be too strong for Keighley B 210-189, while Craven A completed the line up with a 274-243 win over Colne Legion B.

Settle Bowling Club progressed in the Eric Radley Trophy with a win over Kirkheaton CC at Eccleshill BC 232-187.

The Skipton Veterans Handicap qualifying round takes place at Colne Alkincoates tomorrow with a 1.30pm start.
