Slaters Arms Clarkson Cup winning captain Claire Russell of Colne Cricket Club receives the trophy from league president Warren Burnett
The Slaters Arms Clarkson Cup has been won for the first time by Colne Cricket Club.
They bowled over their local rivals Colne Legion A 215-177 in the final at Rolls Royce.
It was a night when almost everything went right for the Cricket Club and while the Legion were left to ponder a disappointing defeat.
Legion set of in good style with Ken Wilson chalking up a 21-5 win, while Bill McLellan 21-14 and David Hough 21-16 improved their side’s position.
John Southworth did produce an early 21-7 win for Cricket Club, but it was Legion who established a 24- point lead.
From then on it was all Cricket Club as skipper Claire Russell led by example with a 21-1 win.
Jim Whitaker followed up with a 21-9 win and Legion soon needed some inspiration to stop the rot.
Unfortunately, non was forthcoming as Glen Hartley was soon chalking up another big win, 21-3.
Daryl Wright 21-12 and Barry Driver 21-16 added further misery on a completely demoralised Legion team.
The last game off saw a win for Legion through Brian Doult 21-19, but the match had been won by a 48- point margin.
The league president Warren Burnett presented the trophy on behalf of the Slaters Arms to Claire Russell who was also voted player of the match.
