Worth Village 46, Queensbury 4

Village maintained their four-point lead at the top of the table and got off to a flying start with a length-of-the-field try on the first set, James Gow scoring in the corner after a flowing move.

In difficult, windy conditions Village were trying to play good, open rugby against a very experienced Queensbury side. After good work from Sean Knapper and Sean Cole, Joe Buckley was given the chance to outrun the defence for a try, man of the match Joe Copperwaite completing the first of five conversions.

Kris Gott was next to score after a break from the impressive Billy McKay before Daz Jackson gave Gott the chance to run 40 yards as Worth led14-0. With Jake Feather and Jonny Crowther both working hard to keep out the big Queensbury forwards, Sean Snowden made the break for Luke Whiteley to score on his home debut.

Village rounded off the half with a break from Jackson, who off-loaded for Joe Copperwaite to go in under the posts and put the hosts 24-0 to the good by the interval.

Queensbury came out more determined in the second half and scored a try from a kick that beat the Village defensive line. But Connor Caveney then gave captain Daz McNulty the chance to reply for Village, who went 30-4 up.

With the Village forwards working hard to keep Queensbury out, Chris Mahomett scored after good work from Jack Copperwaite and McNulty. Only a last-ditch tackle stopped Snowden scoring after a break from Caveney.

However, Worth found the scoresheet again when Jack Copperwaite went over under the posts from 40 yards after a break from Buckley and McKay. Village rounded off with a great team effort which culminated in Rob Spencer deservedly scoring after a bulldozing 60-yard break.

Worth visit Wyke on Saturday , followed by a fundraising night at the Shoulder of Mutton (7pm).
