Worth Village 12 Ovenden 42
Worth Village were unable to do the double as their higher-ranked opponents proved too strong in the Joe Blackford Memorial Cup final at
at Siddal.
This was a battle of the title winners and the Pennine League Division Five champions had the edge against the Division Six West kings.
Ovenden took charge from the kick-off and scored three tries in the first 20 minutes.
Worth Village had a try disallowed after Connor picked up a ball near the post, while Jack Copperwaite worked hard to break the Ovenden defence with no joy. Forwards Daz Jackson and Ben Ross put in some great running but Ovenden scored another try to take the score to 18-0 at half-time.
Good movement from the Halifax side saw them increase their lead with a converted try after the break.
But Village come back into the game with some great running from Joe Hall and Rob Spencer. Then Sean Knapper cut up the defence to score near the posts, with Joe Copperwaite kicking the conversion.
Minutes later, Knapper again went through the defence to put Jason Dovestone in at the corner and Joe Copperwaite added the extras.
However, any thoughts of a comeback ended when Ovenden scored three more tries to seal the win.
Having won the league losing just two away games, it has still been a great season for Worth.
